'Pawan Kalyan Should Start A Political Party': RGV

Ram Gopal Varma is at it again. He had a series of tweets on Chiranjeevi sometime ago. That he was the most charismatic, the most energetic, he the most loved actor blah blah blah... Now he shifts the focus to the youngest and the most happening of the Mega Brothers.

RGV tweeted saying 'I really hope Pawan Kalyan will start his own party..he will be the most dynamic among all actor turned leaders right from MGR to Chiranjeevi. I never voted in my life. ..but I will stand in line and vote for Pawan Kalyan. It's not that Pawan Kalyan needs my vote... From whatever information I have from various people entire Andhra Pradesh is waiting to vote for him. Not since Bal Thackeray did I see such intensity and charisma... commitment in his eyes and honesty in thoughts is what makesPawan Kalyan. I strongly believe that if Pawan Kalyan headed PRP it would have won with a thumping majority'He signed off saying 'I am not saying this for Kalyan's dates. I don't intend to do a film with him...'

Well, RGV is certainly weird but seldom is he wrong in his predictions...

Countdown begins for Shah Rukh Khan and his Chennai Express

Rs. 100 crores for Chennai Express - Now no one is countering that. When Ra.One and immediately after thatDon 2 scored 100 crores while Jab Tak Hai Jaan, despite another 100 crore biggie (Son of Sardaar) releasing alongside, ensured a hat trick, it is a no-brainer to expectChennai Express to be any lesser.

However - and this is where the buck stops - Shah Rukh Khan is a man who is expected to 'create' records, and not be the one 'amongst others' who have these records.

Shah Rukh has to score...and score BIG!

The bare minimum expectation

100 crores is a given for Chennai Express. The game is much higher though. 150-175-200 or more is what is expected to make a headline, not 100 crores!

Salman Khan already has a near double century (Ek Tha Tiger) and three in the vicinity of a century and a half (Dabangg 2, Dabangg, Bodyguard) to his name, Akshay Kumar too has a bigger film to his name (Rowdy Rathore), Aamir Khan is the record setter and the first one to score a century (Ghajini) and then a double century (3 Idiots), Hrithik's Agneepath has scored higher while Ajay has enjoyed a flurry of centuries too (Singham, Son of Sardaar, Bol Bachchan, Golmaal 3).

In the times when a Ranbir Kapoor is hitting a near double century in just his 10th film (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) and after being in the industry for just around half a decade, the stakes are much higher. HisBarfi! introduced him to the century club and now even a Farhan Akhtar is boasting of a 100 crore affair (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag).

In such times, more than anyone else, deep inside even Shah Rukh Khan is expected to believe, hope, expect and want that Chennai Express scales further height.

Let's talk about the Chennai Express - The film

One fact that cannot be denied is that First Look of Ra.One, Don 2 as well as Jab Tak Hai Jaan had seen largely good response coming their way. Of course there are always not-so-flattering reviews accompanying the positive ones as well but as long as it is manageable, there is never a threat. Same has been the case with Chennai Express as well. Though not all may have been impressed, the fact that the balance is still largely towards those who wish to watch the film bring the film in a comfort zone.

Also, let's admit it, promos of Rohit Shetty films are meant to be bound by a certain template. In fact the First Look of his last film Bol Bachchan had seen quite some flak coming its way. Still the film managed to cross the 100 crore mark. Now if one looks at the promo of Chennai Express, while it has large elements of being 'A Rohit Shetty film', one cannot miss a distinct Shah Rukh Khan-ism in the scheme of things.

Fans have their own expectations though

When it came to Ajay Devgn, his fans were mighty impressed with what Rohit Shetty brought out of the actor with Singham. Yes, there were flying cars, men thrown into skies and lamp posts turning into sticks. It was all acceptable since Ajay would anyways have done it in films directed by someone other than Rohit. In case of Chennai Express, the game-plan changes since the film has been presented as an unabashed 'masala' entertainer.

This means that in an attempt to bring in Shah Rukh's mannerisms Rohit Shetty 'ishtyle', there is bound to be apprehension around 'Whose style is it there anyways?'

Is it going to be a Rohit Shetty film with Shah Rukh in there?
Or is it going to be a Shah Rukh film with Rohit as an executor?
Is it going to be one enviable affair which would balance both together?
Or is it going to be a 'khichdi' which turns out to be a mishmash of affair?

The way it seems

While the film is appearing all colourful, bright and vibrant, one key element - 'The Story' - isn't something that has been brought to the fore. Of course one hopes this was intentional but then if one looks at Shah Rukh's record over the years, a film of his always has a story. Whether it is accepted or not, it is always sold on a story. In case of Chennai Express, the 'how' part is still clear (by way of execution) but one is left hunting for the 'what' part in the story!

In addition, a very important element - music - is a topic of conversation as well. Seeing mixed reactions coming their way, the songs have been weighed down by mighty expectations that one has from a Shah Rukh Khan starrer. Again, in case of it just being a Rohit Shetty film, music would have been a minor element in the bigger scheme of things. However the moment Shah Rukh comes on the scene, everything that he does needs to be a blockbuster or a chartbuster.

The ground reality

Chennai Express has all the ammunition it needs to be a 150 crore affair at the least, if not higher. No expense has been spared on making it a BIG film indeed. By all means it has been pitched as a mega film. It has Deepika Padukone as the leading lady who is on a career high. It has been promoted extensively and on all available platforms, while smartly staying away from the over exposure that had earned detractors for Ra.One. It is going to see the biggest release ever for Shah Rukh Khan, Rohit Shetty and UTV. And the biggest of them all, it is arriving on Eid.

On the flipside, it has Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara giving it major competition in immediate next week, which means it won't quite enjoy an uninterrupted run as it would have wanted. However, higher ticket rates should fairly compensate for the lost moolah there.

The final word

100 crores should come in the First Week run itself. It is the collections thereafter that would count most. Rest assured, champagne bottles would be out there waiting to be uncorked. However, it is Shah Rukh, and just Shah Rukh, who would be the best judge on when does he wish to throw a party. If a success party is indeed thrown for anything less than 150 crore, especially in the times when new kids on the block have started scoring so heavily, it would be a bit of surprise!

'Bhai' Nagarjuna in Slovenian castle

Nagarjuna-Richa In Bhai
King Nagarjuna shot few intriguing sequences of his upcoming film Bhai in Predjama castle one of the most picturesque wonders of human history.

I had some fantastic moments while shooting for a song sequence in Predjama Castle Actor Nagarjunasaid. The 700 years castle is perched proudly on 123-metre cliff: powerful, defiant and impregnable - the perfect hideout for the bold, headstrong and rebellious knight Erazem of Predjama, a "robber baron" who is the subject of a romantic and beautiful legend.

Earlier we planned to shoot the song sequences in Iceland, It was worth an experiment shooting in this location. It turned out to be far more suited to the sequence.

Nagarjuna forthcoming film Bhai is a mass entertainer. Produced under the banner Annapurna Productions the movie is currently under post production. Directed by Veerabhadram Choudry. The film also features richa gangopadhyay, Sonu Sood, Rahul Dev, Mukul Dev, Ashish Vidyarthi, Brahmanandam, Jayprakash, Hamsa Nandhini & Nathalia Kaur in two item numbers, music by Devi Sri Prasad.

Shah Rukh and Deepika's magical performance

Shah Rukh and Deepika's magical performance

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have been travelling all over the country to promote 'Chennai Express', but their Gurgaon visit was special. The stars came to the city two days in a row! On Saturday night, they dropped in at the Lemp Brewpub & Kitchen. Next day, the actors visited a city mall.

On Sunday evening, after a two-hour wait (normal, by SRK's standards), the actors and director Rohit Shetty walked in to a packed mall. SRK answered questions with ease, and dodged others with even more ease. When asked, now that he's hugged Salman, if he's interested in rekindling their dosti, he said, "I can't hear you properly. Next, please!" When pressed, his reply was directed to the one asking - "Let's be friends - you and I!" Deepika, graceful and poised, took a few questions and spent most of her time cheering at the crowds or flashing her dimpled smile.

The Q&A session was followed by SRK and DP matching their steps to the tunes of Lungi Danceand Titli. The crowds cheered, and screamed their lungs out when SRK did his famous arms-outstretched pose. In short, Gurgaon received Shah Rukh and Deepika in a mannerbefittingthem - in style!

Abbayi class Ammayi mass

Varun Sandesh, Haripriya in Abbayi class Ammayi mass

If you've only seen a hero chase his lady love into submission in every movie, here's a character who is shy and scared at the very sight of a girl. How the man is brought out of the deep freezer and brought to room temperature is the journey of the story.

And how you wish you hadn't taken the lift that Sri (Varun Sandesh) so willingly offers to anyone who wants a drop! His journey is tiresome to say the least. It takes a long time to make a man out of the boy and the director's wisdom dictated that he use a woman in flesh trade (commercial sex worker, to use a politically correct term) to bring about the change in Sri.

Sri's grandfather, we are informed was a playboy, and so the grandmother makes sure Sri behaves himself well and not emulate her husband. As managing director of a software firm, Sri realises his company has fallen into crisis. The only way he can pull it out of crisis is by taking the help of another industrialist who is too eager to help him financially. His only condition is that Sri should marry his daughter who has fallen in love with him.

Sri has to go to Goa on business and his friend goads him to allow an escort (more politically correct term!) to go with her. Neeru's (Haripriya) assignment is to make him shed his fear of women and get rid of his shyness. She uses her time-tested wiles and is disgusted when Sri remains in his cocoon.

Neeru makes some of her conditions clear when she takes up the `contract' to accompany Sri to Goa but making an exception she takes care of Sri when he is unwell. That is when she stirs a change in him. Putting aside her `professionalism', Neeru does some plain talking to him about women.

All that Haripriya gets to do for most part of the movie is look and act seductive. While the only response that she gets from Sri is indifference, the audience wonders if the irritation that she is will persist all through the movie. Mercifully, sometime after the interval, there is a makeover. Haripriya is refreshing, carries herself well and makes sense.

Varun Sandesh is carried away by his character. Sad that he had to suffer a role that one could see only restricted him as an actor. Well, he chose it. If you choose to watch it, you might just end up looking at your watch most of the time.

Sunny Leone's husband makes Bollywood debut

Actress Sunny Leone's husband Daniel Weber, who manages her work, is all set to play a cameo in her next film " Jackpot" and she is excited about this.

"I am excited that my husband is around and I am very excited about helping him with his looks. I have been helping him out with what he should wear and how he should look," Indo-Canadian adult film star told IANS on the sets of"Jackpot".

Directed by Kaizad Gustad, "Jackpot" features Sachin Joshi and Sunny in the lead. Currently the shooting is on at Casa Vagator and the team canned a scene Friday with Daniel in it.

In it, Sachin tries to convince three foreigners about something specific and Daniel is one of the trio.

Almost 80 percent of the film has been shot in Goa in over a month-long schedule.

"Jakcpot" marks the comeback of "Boom" fame director Gustad, who went into oblivion after Nadia Khan, a female crew member of his team, was hit by a train and killed at Mumbai's Mahalaxmi railway station in 2004.

In May 2010, Gustad was jailed for one month by a Mumbai Central Railway court in connection with Nadia Khan's death. He was also fined Rs 75,000.
